I was able to visit the Basilica Minore del Sto Nino and, as of 30 December 2013, there are already restoration works going on. Scaffolds are up infront and around the broken belfry that was badly damaged during the 15 October 2013 earthquake which might have been primarily caused by the movement of the major bell.

This is a good sign. While restoration works might not be finished in time for the feast of the Sto. Nino, at least, rebuilding the damaged belfry has come underway compared to the rest of the damaged churches in Cebu.

Carcar had braced its damaged left belfry while Pardo Church hasn’t started. For the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, minimal works have been observed. I have no updats for both Sibonga and Dalaguete churches.

  1. Glad to know that restoration work has begun. It’s just sad that not all damages from last year’s earthquake can be repaired.

  2. at, least, as far as i know, they will still bring back the look of the belfry but stronger:)
