Pitalo Chapel in San Fernando was built in 1925 and a portion of it burned last 3 May 2016. I visited and took photos of this edifice after the fire and one of the interesting things that I saw were the series of ceiling paintings found above the left and right aisle. The center aisle portion of the ceiling got damaged. The remaining ceiling is made of wood.
Like some of the southeastern churches in Cebu and to some extent, Bohol, it has ceiling paintings done in the 1930s. According to Heritage Interpreted Ka Bino, these were done by Rey Francia, one of a few Cebuano painters (the other is Canuto Avila and sons) who got commissions in both provinces to paint the ceilings of churches with biblical scenes from the Old Testament, like Jonah and the whale, to the life and times of Jesus Christ and that of the four Evangelists.
As per Ka Bino, some of the panels have been painted over recently while portions of two panels got burned.
